How To Stay On Track in the Summer

How To Stay On Track: Summer 2016

Just because you have a busy summer schedule packed with BBQs and pool parties doesn’t mean you get to slack off on your regular exercise routine. This is a great time to work on your routine and do some fine tuning that will show great results. Here are four things to consider this summer.

Revamp your routine.

The summer season is the perfect time to do a fitness rehaul so that you don’t get stuck in an old, boring routine and lose motivation. Shake it up for the summer with new methods you haven’t used before or target muscle groups that might need some work now that you are shedding clothing layers in the heat. What machines have you never tried before? How can you challenge yourself and take your normal weight lifting to the next level?

Consider your clothing.

Make sure that you adjust the clothing you wear to work out in warmer temperatures. Avoid dark colors, and focus on wearing white or bright colors that will deflect the sun and keep you cooler. Also, stick to the shade — if your normal running route is in direct sunlight, make plans for a detour.

Keep it fresh with fruits (& veggies).

Eating wisely is essential to any fitness routine. This is probably the easiest thing to do in the summer! There are tons of fresh fruits and veggies to make choosing healthy options more enjoyable and fun. An added bonus is that these contain a lot of water and will help you stay hydrated. Food for thought – bananas are also a great option to throw into a post-workout smoothie to recharge your body.

Hit the gym.

Working out in the gym has several summertime advantages. You will have the benefit of personal trainers to keep you motivated and most gyms will also have air conditioning set to an appropriate regulated temperature for optimal workout experience. When those summer temps start creeping up, it’s no excuse to stop training. That’s what a gym is for!

Have fun!

After all, it is summer! Incorporate some untraditional fitness fun into your summer workout regimen. Make plans to go on a hike, swim some laps in an outdoor pool or bike around your neighborhood.
